How do page filters control where my giveaway appears?

Quick answer

Page filters decide where your giveaway shows. Under ADVANCED > URL FILTER, "SHOW the widget ONLY on page URLs containing" limits it to matching pages, and "HIDE the widget on page URLs containing" keeps it off matching pages. Add one URL fragment per line, such as /products/ or /cart. If you fill in both, the SHOW list applies first.

Edit your giveaway, open the ADVANCED tab and find URL FILTER. A page matches when its URL contains the text you enter, whatever the letter case.

How does "SHOW the widget ONLY on page URLs containing" work?

The giveaway appears only on pages whose URL contains one of these values:

EnterThe giveaway shows
/collections/Only on collection pages
/products/Only on product pages
/pages/landingOnly on that landing page

For several page types, add one per line:

/products/
/collections/

How does "HIDE the widget on page URLs containing" work?

The giveaway is hidden on pages whose URL contains one of these values:

EnterThe giveaway is hidden
/cartOn the cart page
/accountOn customer account pages
/blogs/On blog posts

For several pages, add one per line:

/cart
/account

How do the two filters work together?

  1. If the SHOW list has values, the giveaway appears only on pages whose URL contains one of them.
  2. If the HIDE list has values, the giveaway is hidden on pages whose URL contains one of them.
  3. If you fill in both, the SHOW list applies first, then the HIDE list removes pages from that set.

Your giveaway's own page on giveaway.ninja (the Direct URL) always passes the SHOW list, so it keeps working whatever you enter.

Tips

  • Use partial URLs for broad matches: /collections/ matches every collection page.
  • To test a giveaway live before you launch it, put a made-up value such as test=giveaway in the SHOW list, then visit any page with ?test=giveaway added to its URL. Shoppers browsing normally won't see it.
  • After changing filters, visit a few pages to check the giveaway shows and hides where you expect.

People also ask

My giveaway disappeared after I added a filter. What happened?

A SHOW value probably doesn't match the page you're on. Clear the filter and test again. See why your giveaway isn't showing up on your store.

Can I show the giveaway only on my landing page?

Yes. Add the landing page's URL, such as /pages/giveaway, to the SHOW list. See how to embed a giveaway on a Shopify landing page.

Can I show the giveaway only to visitors from an ad?

Yes. In the INITIAL PAGE section of the ADVANCED tab, trigger the giveaway when the first page a visitor lands on has a query string such as utm_source=facebook.
